Government of India

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare

(Department of Family Welfare)

This is with reference to the letter received by this Department from some of the manufactures of ultra sound machines finding difficulty in selling their machines to the clinics / centres on account of non issuance of  Registration Certificate by the Appropriate Authorities due to non-availability of machine number, model no. invoice no. etc. As you aware, according to the amendment to the PNDT Act, which has come into operation w.e.f.14.02.2003, the ultra sound machines can not be sold to the clinics/ centres which are not registered under the PNDT Act. In this connection, I am to say that it is only the clinic/ Centre which is to be registered and not the machine's) or the equipment. The details of all machines etc, already acquired by the clinic/centre at the time of registration are to be communicated in the registration certificate and the machine acquired after registration can be added therein on receipt of information there of under Rule 13. Hence while applying for registration of the clinic/body, there is no need for the clinic to take a decision on any particular model or make of the machine to be purchased.

You are, therefore request to take immediate action for issuing the registration certificate to the centres / clinics who have applied for registration certificate with our asking them to indicate model, make, serial no. etc. in the application of registration. All these details can be added subsequently as mentioned in the above Para.
